Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 9

Marian and Weatherly posted Schuylkill League victories in boys basketball action on Thursday, while Tamaqua and Panther Valley picked up wins in girls play.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Lourdes

Marian jumped out to an early lead and eventually pulled away for an 82-63 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

Tyler Fritz paced the Colts (10-0; 5-0) with 28 points, while Dante Agosti hit five three-pointers and finished with 25. The winners, who scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, also received 13 points from Chris Ritsick.

For Lourdes (2-10; 0-5), Hunter Reed scored a team-high 24 points.

In the JV game, Marian rolled to a 70-36 win behind 20 points from Chris Chambers and 12 from Matt Rehrig.

Minersville-Weatherly

Scotty Zoscin scored a game-high 33 points, including seven three-pointers, to lead Weatherly to a 59-52 Schuylkill League win over Minersville.

The Wreckers (6-5; 1-4), who hit 10 treys in the contest, also received eight points from both Antonio Colecio and Trevor Lowman. Zoscin also added six rebounds and seven steals.

Gabe Davis finished with a team-high 17 points for the Miners (1-10; 1-4).

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe nearly upset Blue Mountain in a Schuylkill League contest, but the Eagles rallied for a 52-51 overtime victory.

In the OT, Keenan Cryts scored four points to help Blue Mountain (11-2; 4-2) pull out the win.

Chris Condly paced Thorpe (3-9; 1-4) with 16 points, while Adam Lauer added 14 and Caiden Hurley chipped in 13.

Pine Grove used a big second half to earn a 51-34 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Shea Morgan scored 13 points to lead the Cardinals (7-4; 3-3).

The Panthers (7-5; 2-4) received a game-high 14 points from Erick Marcharro, while Brandon Stilitino chipped in with eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-Mahanoy Area

Tamaqua built a big lead and cruised to a 61-46 non-league victory over Mahanoy Area.

Emma Kuczynski had a huge game for the Blue Raiders, finishing with a game-high 26 points and 20 rebounds. The winners, who improved to 8-2, also received 19 points from Emily Titus and 10 from Jamie Zuber.

For the Golden Bears (7-2), Jordan Karmonick tallied a team-high 22 points.

Mahanoy prevailed in the JV contest, 57-53, despite 20 points and 21 boards from Serena Jones.

The Bears (6-8) received pins from Gentry Knapp, Alex Womack, Josh Griffith, Logan Segeda and Everett Lata.

Christopher Frable added a technical fall, and Hannah Hunter had a decision.

Nolehi also gained decision wins from Preston Bauer (132), Trevor Amorim (145) and Josh Schaffer (285).

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Connor Dillon scored 16 points to lead Tamaqua to a 36-21 win over Lehighton.

The Blue Raiders also received seven points from Spence Dennis. Thomas had six for the Indians.

JR. HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua gained a 37-22 victory over Lehighton in the A game as Laney Werner scored 11 points.

The Blue Raiders also received 10 points from Carly Minchoff. The Indians were paced by Solomon’s eight points.

In the B game, Samantha Plasha netted 22 points to lead Tamaqua to a 30-18 win. Repsher tallied eight for the Indians.
