Two Palmerton residents recognized

Two Palmerton residents were honored this week for the parts they play in the town.

Borough council offered their thanks to Lynn Shupp and Kerri Jahelka during a regular council meeting Thursday for their contributions to Palmerton. Shupp and Jahelka were recognized for the businesses they own, Lynn Shupp Photography and Dedicated Fitness, respectively.

Councilmen Kris Hoffner and Richard Nothstein summed up why these two women were being recognized: Shupp attends many borough events, a camera often in hand. And Jahelka promotes healthy living to students, local community groups and residents.

Of the recognition, Jahelka said she was thankful, but it also felt a bit strange.

“I feel silly being awarded for something that just speaks to my heart,” Jahelka said. “My goal is to help everyone become the best of what they can be, so that they can shine their light into our community.”

Shupp, who grew up in Palmerton, echoed a similar sentiment.

“I really do believe in this area,” Shupp said. “That’s why I came back after art school in Philly.”

“If we forget where we came from, we have no idea where we’re going,” she continued.

On the resolutions passed marking Shupp and Jahelka’s efforts, both commended them for making Palmerton “a nice place to live.”
