Thorpe, Tamaqua girls remain unbeaten

Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both picked up wins on the first night of Schuylkill League girls basketball action this season, while the Northwestern and Palmerton girls each won Colonial League games.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Three players scored 13 points for Jim Thorpe in a 60-34 Schuylkill League win over Pine Grove.

Mackenzie Yuhas, Leila Hurley and Skyler Searfoss paced the Olympians, while Olivia Smelas added 12.

Mikali Donmoyer led the Cardinals with 19 points, with 14 of that total coming in the fourth quarter.

Jim Thorpe moves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

A 29-point third quarter surge sparked Tamaqua to a 59-25 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders’ Emma Kuczynski posted a double-double for the fifth time this season with 28 points and 17 rebounds.

Teammate Emily Titus just missed one herself with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Tamaqua improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the SL.

The Tigers’ Alexandra Lister scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter, while Sydney Sevrain and Paige Sevrain added 11 and 10, respectively.

Emma Niebell led the Bulldogs with nine points.

Northwestern improves to 6-2 overall (5-0 CL), while Northern Lehigh slips to 3-3 overall (2-3).

Pottsville recorded a sweep in a Schuylkill League meet against Tamaqua.

The Tide earned a 100-56 win on the boys side, while edging the hosts for a 91-85 victory on the girls side.

Madelyn Jones was the lone multiple winner for the Blue Raiders, as she won in the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Brianna Dumond (100 Back), Joey Lescavage (200 IM), Zeno Zukovich (50 Free), Brandon Long (100 Back) and Alexander Barron (100 Breast) all scored single firsts for the locals.

Tamaqua rolled to a 33-6 victory over Stroudsburg.

Samantha Plasha had 10 points and Kolbe Robb added eight to lead the Raiders (2-1).
