Historical society hosts Christmas holiday open house

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will be hosting a special Christmas Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

All community members are invited to attend.

The open house event is free to the public.

Visitors will have the opportunity to browse through the collection of the society while enjoying Christmas music and special Christmas decorations.

Light snacks and beverages will also be available for all guests.

The mission of the Nesquehoning Historical Society is to preserve and share the memories of all those who have called Nesquehoning their home.

Remembering Nesquehoning

The society hosts regular monthly meetings and special events and lectures.

Many grown children find that they have inherited boxes of precious photos and mementos from their elders.

The Nesquehoning Historical Society offers a safe home to honor these memories and to share their meaning with others in the community. This is accomplished by creating special displays with handwritten notes describing how specific items were used in the families of the individuals who donated their keepsake items to the society.

To facilitate the creation of the display notes for each item, donors are encouraged to write up a paragraph or two of the memories that they associate with each donated item.

This way visitors can enjoy the special stories that come along with any given item as they look through the display cases. Donations of special items may be made to the society whenever the doors are open.

Meetings

The society also holds a regular monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

However, because the fourth Tuesday of December falls on Christmas Eve, the December meeting has been canceled.

The society’s doors are open on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. These first Saturday events are a combination of open house for visitors and workday to maintain the building.
