$1K grand prize winner revealed in second annual Times News coverall bingo contest

B1275.

On the surface, that may sound like a random number with little to no significance.

But, for one lucky person, that number meant they had just won $1,000 through their participation in the second annual Times News coverall bingo contest.

The grand prize bingo winner was announced Wednesday at the Lehighton Outdoor Center.

Out of the 50 finalists, the lucky winner was Faye Frable of Palmerton.

Frable’s face told the story upon the realization that she had just won the contest.

“It’s exciting,” Frable said. “It’s awesome.”

Frable said it was a real joy to participate in the contest.

“Every time you got a number, you were hoping it was your number,” she said. “The last day they put the numbers in, they were all the ones that I needed.”

Frable said she already had several ideas on how she’ll utilize her winnings.

“We just put up a new garage, so I might want to put some toward it, and I also have adult children (to spend it on),” she said. “The rest is for me.”

Aside from the main prize, various smaller prizes were given out to eight other lucky participants for the following: Dunbar Bottling Co. Inc., Lehighton; Boyer’s Food Market, Tamaqua; Mallard Markets, Lehighton; Zig’s Beverage, Weissport; Diggity Dogs & More, Slatington; Just Illusions, Brodheadsville; Cherry’s Family Restaurant, Kresgeville; and Jim Thorpe Massage, Jim Thorpe.

Jerry McAward, owner of the Lehighton Outdoor Center, said he was honored to be a part of such a fun community event.

“We’ve always had a great relationship with the Times News,” McAward said. “I’m happy you’re here and to be part of a community like this.”

Jen Benninger, Times News advertising director, thanked the Lehighton Outdoor Center for being the main sponsor of the contest, as well as the other sponsors for the contest, including Blended Bakery, Lehighton; Dunbar Bottling Co. Inc, Lehighton; Koch’s Lawn & Garden, New Ringgold; Hager Furniture Company, Palmerton; and TN Printing.

Refreshments were provided by Cindy’s Deli, Franklin Township.

“This is our second year we’ve done the promotion,” Benninger said. “I think we have even more excitement this time.”

Jennifer Rowden, Times News marketing director, said the bingo drawing began on Sept. 7.

Rowden said contestants had to coverall bingo, and the last number was released on Nov. 22.

“We had just under 800 valid bingo cards,” Rowden said.

Harold Kromer of Walnutport said he was impressed with the Lehighton Outdoor Center, and added he was glad he decided to participate in the contest.

“I never knew there was a store like this,” Kromer said. “I just got an urge to try it (the bingo contest).”
