Prothonotary’s report

A total of 353 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Assessments appeals, 4; civil actions, 30; custody complaints, 12; complaints to modify custody, 14; district justice appeal, 1; divorce complaints, 11; complaint in ejectment, 1; eminent domain/declaration of taking, 1; license appeals, 7; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 14; protection from abuse petitions, 23; protection from sexually violent person petitions, 2; quiet title actions, 6; complaint in replevin, 1; judgments, 204; miscellaneous cases, 5; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 13. The office also processed 105 passport applications and granted assistance to the public with 12 passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for November shows $29,155.63 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $23,441.71; interest income, $2.62; custody/divorce fee; $960; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $169.50; PFA Surcharge, Courts; $150; data processing fees, $3,793.05; stenographer fees, $638.75; and remote access fees, $2,400.

The prothonotary also remitted $3,904.65 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $34 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,151.25 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
