Andreas VFW

Andreas VFW Post 5069 will meet at West Penn Township Annex at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11. The discussion will be on 2020 events. Accepting new and reinstated members. For more information call 570-386-3224.

Garden Club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its November meeting on Nov. 19 at the newly renovated Zion Church Memorial Hall. Members made Christmas decorations under the direction of member Louise Flexer. Winners for the arrangement category, chrysanthemums in a fall container, were: Turkey Table Centerpiece, Marie Barth; Cornucopia, Mary Bridygham; and arrangement in fall vase, Carol Kohn. All were judged as first-place winners.

The next meeting will be Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. the yearly Christmas party. In lieu of a gift exchange, members will donate $5, which will be donated to a local charity. This year’s gift will go to The Tamaqua Adult Day Care Center. The party and meeting, installation of officers, will be at Zion Church Memorial Hall, Lewistown Valley.

Soup social

Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will hold a free monthly soup social from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:10 a.m.

Saturday will be decorating of the church at 10 a.m. Dec. 11, Trustee Board meeting at 7 p.m. Every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Hope in the Mountains, a Nar-Anon Family Group, meets at 57 Hunter St. If you have questions or are interested in attending these meetings, contact Mark at 570-952-5098.

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Nov. 26 at Christ Church, Barnesville with 37 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert opened the meeting with the reading “The Great Provider.”

Larry Vower and Betty Brobst were added to the sick list. Birthday greetings were extended to Muriel Wehr and John Taylor. Two Christmas wreaths were raffled off with the winners being Mary Ann Laughlin and Nancy Schuchart.

Annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 10 at Capriotti’s, McAdoo.

The group meets at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at Christ Church in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Jan. 14.

Baby food ministry

Saint Vincent de Paul of Saint John XXIII Baby Food Ministry registration is underway.

Free baby food will be given for babies from birth to 1 year at the Church Hall, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua, on the third Saturday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.

Registration is required at least three days before distribution online at tamaquasvdp@outlook.com or by phone at 570-225-8620 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

This is open to residents of the Tamaqua Area School District, or members of Saint John XXIII Parish.
