Woman sentenced for public drunkenness at trunk or treat event

A Tamaqua woman who was cited for public drunkenness at the Rush Township trunk or treat event Oct. 26 entered a guilty plea Nov. 19.

Melissa A. Schartel, 54, entered a guilty plea to DUI and endangering the welfare of a child. On the DUI charge, she will lose her license for 18 months and pay fines and costs totaling $1,370. On the charge of endangering the welfare of a child, she will be on probation for five years. She must complete the alcohol highway safety school and complete 100 hours of community service.
