Kidnapping incident ends in death of suspect

A kidnapping incident in Luzerne County on Sunday ended in the death of the suspect.

State police at Wyoming said the incident began at 3:18 p.m. Sunday when the county 911 center received a call concerning a male subject holding a teen girl at knife point in the area of the Greater Nanticoke Area Senior High School.

Nanticoke police responded to the scene. The suspect was identified as Jordan Patrick Oliver, 20. He was observed holding a 15-year-old teen with a knife to her throat. Nanticoke officers attempted to negotiate with Oliver, and the girl became separated from him. The teen was directed to a nearby Nanticoke police cruiser as officers attempted to take Oliver into custody.

A struggle ensued and Oliver sprayed mace on the officers and was able to flee in the Nanticoke police cruiser with the female inside. State police then took jurisdiction of the incident and the major case team was activated in conjunction with the county district attorney’s office. An Amber Alert was issued for the girl and an arrest warrant was secured for Oliver.

The investigation led to Oliver being found in a wooded area in Hanover Township in the Warrior Run area.

A perimeter was set up and the state police special emergency response team located Oliver and the girl. The response team made contact with Oliver. Deadly force was used against Oliver, and the victim was freed unharmed.
