2019 general election: Republicans sweep council seats in Lansford

Four Republicans swept the Lansford Borough Council race on Tuesday.

Incumbents Bruce Markovich, William Chuma and John Turcmanovich and former council president Martin S. Ditsky all won four-year terms in a six-candidate race.

Markovich was the top vote recipient with 460 votes, followed by Chuma with 376, Turcmanovich with 366 and Ditsky with 304.

Losing out were Democrats Lou Labosky and Mary Soberick, who tallies 287 and 265 votes, respectively.

In one other race, Michele Bartek won the two-year mayoral term that was available, tallying 439 votes. She appeared on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.

There was a write-in effort for the mayor’s office as Joseph Butrie and Hugh Vrablic both aspired to the term. However, only 192 write-in votes were recorded for that race, far less than the new mayor’s total.
