Grateful for Tamaqua school board

Editor:

We were around in 1993-1995 when the Tamaqua Area School District was having problems. Our daughter graduated in 1994. Her senior year was compromised by the teachers choosing not to help with extracurricular activities. The parents of her class stepped up to the plate and helped with activities that year. The teachers union and the school board were in a war over contract issues and the kids were suffering.

Larry Wittig formed a group to take control of the board and set a course for the district that was a common-sense approach. This team philosophy was to keep taxes low, emphasize academic performance, and treat employees as human beings with feeling. Twenty-four years later our district is the pride of our peer group thanks to the effort of Larry Wittig and the philosophy that is still there today. The team of Dan Schoener, Larry Wittig, Melanie Dillman, Tom Bartasavage and Trina Schellhammer are committed to continuing the effort to keep our school district fiscally responsible while keeping the best interests of students, employees and taxpayers. They understand finances and the effect of high taxes on the average person. We are so grateful for our school board and the caliber of individuals that sacrifice their time and freely give of themselves so we can have the best schools possible.

Sincerely,

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Houser, Lifelong Residents & Proud Graduates of Tamaqua
