October 28, 1982 — Palmerton’s Georgianna Messinger captures first place at the District 11 Cross Country Championships and the Blue Bomber girls also win the team title in Class 2A. Messinger runs the course at Allentown College in a time of 19:25 to finish 31 seconds ahead of runner-up Lori Lawson of Tamaqua. The Bombers, coached by Jim Sosik, receive a 12th place from Shari Barbosa and a 20th from Lori Moyer. The Blue Raiders, who take second in the team standings, add an eighth from Chris Adams, while Northern Lehigh’s Kelly Baer also finishing in the top-10, taking ninth.
