Support Jean Engler for DA

Fellow citizens of Carbon County, I am writing to offer my enthusiastic support to District Attorney Jean Engler in her quest to be re-elected to the position of Carbon County DA.

I have known Jean personally for several decades and worked with her in providing community service through the Jim Thorpe Rotary, of which she has been a member for over ten years. Despite having a busy schedule, she has always found time to be an active and valuable member of our club in giving back to the community.

For many years she introduced local school students to the justice system, serving as a “mock trial coach” at Marian High School. Also, I have followed attorney Engler’s career from her election to the Pennsylvania Bar Association, her service as an Assistant DA from 1989 to 2015 and her subsequent election as DA in 2015.

For the past four years, as Carbon County’s DA, she has performed her duties effectively and admirably. During that time, she has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases and has been instrumental in promoting the LEAD Program (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) to assist drug offenders in obtaining treatment and is a team member of the Veterans Court that assists our veterans in dealing with their legal, psychological and sociocultural issues.

Any elected official should possess many necessary qualities, especially one elected to serve us in the justice system as our district attorney. Primarily, honesty, integrity, a sense of justice and fairness are paramount. Second, interpersonal skills, communication and organization are needed to be an effective DA.

Finally, experience is often the best teacher. In my opinion, DA Engler possesses all the important attributes noted above and, after serving in the DA’s Office for 30 years, she has accumulated a vast amount of experience and knowledge that assists her in competently carrying out her duties. In sum, I wholeheartedly support attorney Jean Engler’s candidacy for re-election to the District Attorney’s Office and encourage the residents of Carbon County to vote for her, too.

Sincerely,

Clem McGinley, MD
