A Lehighton man was sentenced on Thursday in three criminal cases he previously entered guilty pleas.

He was one of seven defendants who appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass to be sentence after previously entering guilty pleas.

Lehighton incidents

Stephen A. Griffith Sr.

, 52, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in prison on a driving under the influence charge, pay a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. He was given credit for three days already served and paroled.

He was also sentenced on a charge of hindering apprehension to serve 18 months probation and on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia six months probation. The probation terms run consecutive to each other and consecutive to the DUI charge.

He was arrested on the DUI count on Nov. 8, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along First Street in Lehighton. He refused a test. The hindering apprehension incident occurred on April 12, 2015, in the 200 block of South Second Street following a vehicle stop by Lehighton police. The paraphernalia occurred on Jan. 18 following a traffic stop by Lehighton police.

He must also render a total of 125 hours of community service.

DUI cases

The following were sentenced on DUI and related counts.

Pamela Sue Buchinsky

, 49, of Charleston, West Virginia, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. She began the jail term immediately.

She arrested on Feb. 20, 2015, along Route 248 by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She was previously placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.

Sean Maiden

, 43, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced in two cases of DUI and drug possession. On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve three to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. On the drug count he was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in prison concurrent with the DUI charge.

He must also render 100 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends. He had applied for the Intermediate Punishment Program, but Serfass rejected the request based on new criminal charges filed against Maiden.

He was arrested on the DUI charge on July 6, 2018, by Lehighton police along West Alley. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. The drug incident occurred along South East Alley at Iron Street, Lehighton, also on July 6. Methamphetamine was the drug noted in the police report.

Marcos Antonio Perez Jr.

28, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He is currently an inmate in the county prison awaiting action on a probation violation petition filed by the adult probation office.

He was arrested on Feb. 10 along Route 209 by Lansford police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Christopher Jon Schnell

, 22, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He will begin serving the prison term at 9 a.m. on Oct. 18.

He was arrested on Jan. 25, 2018, by Lehighton police along Iron Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Raymond Cano Wilder

, 52, of Summit Hill, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Oct. 25.

He was arrested on Aug. 1, 2018, by state police at Lehighton, and pleaded to DUI of a controlled substance.

Martin Q. Stofanak

, 58, of Bethlehem, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service as a first offense.

He was arrested on March 26 by Lehighton police.

Resentence

Rachel Joy Allen

, 33, of Saylorsburg, was resentenced on a charge of possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine count. She was arrested on Jan. 25, 2018, by Mahoning Township police following a traffic stop along Spring Hill Road. Allen was a passenger in the vehicle and found with meth.

Serfass imposed the same sentence of probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. The resentencing was due to a PennDOT regulation.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
