Several injured in two-car crash in Franklin

Several people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday night in Franklin Township.

State Police at Lehighton said the incident occurred at 8:16 p.m. as a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus operated by Gage Whiteman, 18, of Lehighton, was traveling southbound in the right lane on Indian Hill Road.

At that same time, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Robert Lutz, 78, of Lehighton, was traveling northbound in the right lane on Indian Hill Road.

Whiteman overcompensated a left curve and was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of travel when he made initial point of impact at the Chrysler’s front left quarter panel and bumper with the Chevrolet’s front left quarter panel.

The Chrysler came to final rest in the roadway in the southbound lane of travel, while the Chrysler came to final rest in the roadway in the northbound lane of travel.

Whiteman sustained a minor head injury and was transported by Lehighton Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident.

Lutz and a passenger, Dorette Gombert, 65, of Palmerton, sustained minor injuries and were transported by Lehighton Ambulance to St. Luke’s Lehighton. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the incident.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Don’s Towing.

A person was injured Thursday night in a crash in FranklinTownship. The head-on accident occurred on Indian Hill road just east of Willow street. The driver of a car was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a local trauma center. An elderly couple in the sport utility vehicle were evaluated at the scene. Firefighters of Franklin Township fire company assisted at the scene with their fire police maintaining traffic control at the scene. State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
