One dead after two-car crash in Lower Towamensing

A Saylorsburg woman is dead following a two-car crash Saturday afternoon in Lower Towamensing Township.

State Police at Lehighton said the incident occurred at 3:54 p.m. along Forest Inn Road and Fireline Road where Forest Inn Road traverses North and South Fireline Road.

The crash occurred when a 2006 Chevrolet Impala being operated by Estelle Kent, 84, was traveling west on Fireline Road and came to a stop on Fireline Road at the intersection with Forest Inn Road.

Subsequently, a 2004 Ford Ranger being driven by Travis Goodhile, 28, of Palmerton, was traveling south on Forest Inn Road.

At some point after the Impala had stopped at the stop sign, it then entered the intersection without it being clear, pulling out in front of the Ford Ranger, which resulted in the Ford Ranger striking the Chevrolet within the southbound lane of travel located in the intersection.

Kent was extracted from the vehicle by the Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Department by mechanical means, and was then transported by Palmerton Ambulance to a helicopter and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Cedar Crest.

Kent was later declared deceased at Lehigh Valley Hospital by the Lehigh County Coroner’s office.

Goodhile sustained no injuries and required no medical treatment. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident.

Also assisting at the scene were Lehighton Ambulance and Strohl’s Towing.

State Police at Lehighton are investigating and have determined that Kent was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
