October 7, 1977 — Panther Valley’s golf team downs Pottsville, 7 1/2-3 1/2, at the Schuylkill Country Club to capture the Schuylkill League championship. Benji Lesniak earns medalist honors with an 84 and defeats his opponent, 2-0. The Panthers, coached by Paul “Bucky” Yanchura, also receive 2-0 victories from Mike Taras and Bill Mogilski. The win by Taras allows him to complete his season with a perfect 15-0 record.
