Area Fire Prevention Week activities

• Nesquehoning fire companies will visit Panther Valley Elementary School on Oct. 11 throughout the day.

• The Jim Thorpe Fire Department will be doing its annual Fire Prevention Week program at the LB Morris Elementary School at 9 a.m. on Oct. 9 and at St. Joseph Regional Academy preschool at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 10. The department will be showing the students a fire prevention DVD and then sending them outside to see the fire apparatus on display and talk to firefighters.

• Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will hold an open house at the fire department from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 7 for the public. There will be demonstrations, as well as building and vehicle tours. Information on fire prevention and volunteering opportunities will also be available. Refreshments will be served.

• The Diligence Fire Co. No. 1 in Summit Hill will have Fire Prevention open house at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the station. Volunteers will have fire prevention materials for all ages and our fire and rescue equipment. Certified firefighters will also be on hand.

• Lehighton Fire Department will host an open house on from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the Lehighton Fire Department station, 132 S. Third St.

• Polk Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the station.

• East End Fire Company of Tamaqua will hold an open house for the public from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. All are welcome.

• Parryille Volunteer Fire Company will participate in a multidepartment Fire Prevention program at Lehighton Area School District at 8 a.m. on Oct. 11.
