Lehighton L&P to observe Public Power Week

An open house will once again be the featured attraction during Lehighton Borough Light and Power Department’s celebration of Public Power Week.

The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Light & Power Building at 675 Bridge St.

The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

The borough’s L&P Department will celebrate Public Power Week Oct. 6-12, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

Public Power Week is a nationally celebrated event. Established by the American Public Power Association and its members in 1986, Public Power Week celebrates the importance of public power.

Lehighton is one of 35 municipalities in the state that distribute electricity to their community.
