Coaldale man jailed after chase

A Coaldale man was jailed on Monday following a police pursuit that began in Tamaqua and ended in Port Carbon.

State police at Frackville identified the suspect as Joseph Pellegrino, 52.

According to troopers the pursuit occurred in the area of State Road and Tuscarora Mountain Drive in Ryan Township. Troopers were requested by Tamaqua police in an active pursuit of a stolen 2016 Mercedes C300 sedan bearing a New Jersey registration plate. A traffic stop was attempted and the driver of the vehicle failed to yield. The vehicle was followed to Tuscarora. The stolen vehicle was then observed traveling along Route 209 towards Port Carbon borough where it was located in the rear of apartments on Acre Street.

Troopers said Pellegrino fled on foot but was apprehended. He was arraigned on charge of theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding police and related counts. He was committed to the county prison in Pottsville, failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
