Reagan Pender’s second-place finish highlighted area performances at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday.

In other action, Jim Thorpe picked up boys soccer, girls soccer, and tennis victories.

DeSales Invitational

Northern Lehigh’s Reagan Pender took second place at Saturday’s DeSales Invitational Cross Country Meet.

The Bulldog senior finished in 19:00.5. She was almost half a minute behind winner Olivia Haas of Blue Mountain, who came in at 18:28.5. Pender finished far ahead of third-place Emily Jobes (Liberty), who ran the race in 19:21.

Emmaus won the girls team title with 79 points. Northwestern finished sixth (234), just behind Colonial League rival Southern Lehigh (223).

Three Schuylkill League girls teams finished in a bunch at the meet as Lehighton took ninith with 283, Tamaqua was 10th at 292, while Blue Mountain was just in 11th at 295.

Liberty’s Cole Frank won the boys race coming in at 16:11.4, which put him 15 seconds ahead of second-place Alex Kane of Southern Lehigh.

The top boys finisher from the Times News area was Tamqaua’s Brandon Fogarty in 27th place at 17:29.36.

Northwestern finished 11th out of 33 boys teams that scored in the meet, led by Sam Bower (36th place).

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe outlasted Pine Grove for a 3-2 Schuylkill League win.

With the score knotted at 1-1 at halftime, Dawson Meckes and Leandro Ramirez scored second half goals to help the Olympians pull out the victory.

Marc Waslesyn scored in the first half for the winners to get things started. Jack Morris had a pair of assists for Thorpe.

Mitch Lesh and Aaron Balmer scored goals for the Cardinals.

Jacob Geiser had eight saves in the win for JT.

Tamaqua-No. Lehigh

Holding a 2-0 lead at the intermission, Tamaqua erupted for five more scores in the second half to record a 7-0 shutout victory over non-league opponent, Northern Lehigh.

Luke Verta and Dax Weller both scored twice for the Blue Raiders, and Zach Campomizzi, Ian Davis and Tyler Steigerwalt all added single scores. Steigerwalt also added an assist.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-No. Lehigh

Ashley Mazzocca scored the game-winning goal for Northern Lehigh as it edged Tamaqua, 3-2, in non-league action.

Emily Hunsicker had a pair of goals in the first half for the Bulldogs.

The Raiders got both of their goals from Emma Kuczynski. Sophia Boyle added an assists.

Nolehi’s Erica Detweiler had 22 saves, while her counterpart, Baylee Reinhardt had 10.

Jim Thorpe-Weatherly

Jim Thorpe picked up its fourth win of the season with an 8-0 shutout of Weatherly.

Lauren LeKites scored four goals for the Olympians, while Riley Rushatz, Lydia Wallace, Heidi Washel and Kelly Hogarty all scored one goal. Washel also had an assists.

Thorpe held a 36-3 edge in shots on goal. The shutout was the Olympians fourth of the season.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Pleasant Valley scored early and often in a 9-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference shutout of Dieruff.

Teah Cardoza scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the Bears. Larissa Mulligan also scored twice, while Samantha Merklin, Ella Muir, Laura Babu, Kristen Chong and Sophia Alcamo all tallied one goal.

The Bears (5-1-2), held a 19-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Lehighton-Nativity

Lehighton turned a close game at halftime into a 6-1 non-league victory over Nativity.

Ashley Marchessault had three goals and an assist for the winners. Abigail Meckes had a pair of goals and an assists, while Erin Homm added the other Tribe score. Brittney Bartasavage had two assists.

For the Golden Girls, Mackenzie Miller had the game’s opening goal.

Alyssa Myers had 10 saves for the Indians.

FIELD HOCKEY

Dieruff-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley picked up a 5-0 shutout win over Dieruff in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Matti Hyland scored twice and added an assist for the winners, while Sophia DiFusco, Nikol Smale and Heather Todaro all scored single goals.

The Bears held a 35-2 edge in shots.

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern managed a 3-1 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Brynn Balliet, Brooke Page and Tess Ledeboer all scored for the winners.

Ella DeFazio had the lone goal for the Falcons.

Bangor posted a 4-1 non-league win over Pleasant Valley.

No. 1 singles player Riley Wagner had the only win for the Bears.

Marian ran into some tough competition at the Parkland Invitational as the Fillies dropped straight set matches to Parkland, Freedom, Liberty and Bishop Shanahan in pool play.

The Fillies were led offensively on the day by Alivia Karchner with 15 kills and Ashlyn Klitch with 17 assists. Defensively, Kelly Sullivan had eight blocks and Tatianna Zeleniak had 12 digs.

Lehighton-ES North

East Stroudsburg North managed a five-set win over Lehighton, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 17-25, and 16-14.

Tamaqua-Catasauqua

Tamaqua posted a three-set non-league win over Catasauqua, 25-12, 25-22, and 25-10.
