Coaldale council adds new member

The Coaldale Borough Council welcomed a new member into its ranks during its meeting on Tuesday.

David Boyle succeeds Chad Gerber as the newest addition to the council. Boyle cited his son, junior council member Jacob Boyle, for his decision to apply for the open position. His main passion, he said, is, “supporting the police department,” adding, “police coverage is one of my biggest things.”

As former chairman and current treasurer of the Coaldale Crime Watch, he is “very enthusiastic to support (the police department) and their services in Coaldale.”

The bidding for the lot on 223 E. Ridge St. has successfully concluded, and the winning bidder has been notified; the borough is simply awaiting payment.

The other property that the borough has been attempting to rent or lease, a complex, still had no new offers at the time of the meeting.

The borough is also moving ahead with a street improvement project, accepting two bids for two new inlets for the bus stop at the intersection of Fifth and Philip streets. The project, scheduled to start in two weeks, is promised to be “quick and safe,” according to Vice President Claire Remington.

Fall cleanup will be on Sept. 21. Residents may discard items on their sidewalks the night before, but are reminded that the cleaning crew will only pass through town once.

The Fall Community Yard Sale will be held during the first weekend of October, Oct. 5 and 6.
