West Penn Twp. raises fees for impound lot

West Penn Township has established a new fee schedule for impounded vehicles.

On a unanimous measure, the township’s board of supervisors on Monday adopted a resolution that increases the rates.

In November, supervisors adopted an ordinance, along with a fee schedule, for the impound lot located behind the township police station.

The following fee schedule is now applicable to all vehicles or equipment pursuant to the ordinance as follows:

• $50 administrative fee for any vehicle impounded, which represents a $25 increase.

• $40 per day for vehicles weighing less than 11,000 pounds, $15 increase.

• $60 per day for vehicles weighing more than 11,000 pounds, $10 increase.

• $80 per day for vehicles weighing more than 17,000 pounds, $5 increase.

All fees or sums required pursuant to the provisions of the resolution are to be paid by check payable to the “Township of West Penn” at the time of application.

The impound lot opened last month.

In August 2018, supervisors agreed to build a 102-foot-deep, 96-foot-long, impound lot with the capacity to hold between 30-40 vehicles.

The township used about $10,000 from the police department’s budget to build the impound lot.
