Sept. 11 services planned

The Carbon County Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct a Patriot Day 9/11 memorial service at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday in the Josiah White Park, Jim Thorpe.

All emergency services, veterans organizations and the public is invited to attend the service.

Gilbert

The American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

It is an open event and a light lunch will be provided.

Tamaqua

Tamaqua will host a 9/11 memorial service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Southward playground, located at the corner of Oak and Penn streets.

There will be several speakers, including state Rep. Jerry knowels, County Commissioners Gary Hess and George Halcovage, and representatives from the Salvation Army and military.

Summit Hill

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill, will celebrate a Red, White and Blue Mass in honor of Patriot Day at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, 462 W. Ludlow St.

The parish invites all police, firefighters, first responders, legal professionals and health care workers who serve the Panther Valley and their families to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving.

Those in emergency and health care professions are asked to wear their uniforms to the Mass.

Following the Mass, any service vehicle that is brought to the church will be blessed. To RSVP, email lisasjpv@gmail.com.

A reception will follow the Mass in the Rev. James J. Burdess Social Hall, located in the lower level of the church.
