American Legion

The Palmerton American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 27, at the VFW, Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. They are always looking for those interested in joining.

Art & photo show

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will be holding an art & photo show at St. John Neumann Regional School, 259 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 7 and from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 8. Artists’ registration information and forms are available at www.concourseclub.org.

Wing night

The Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, 259 Lime St., Bowmanstown will hold wing night from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 29. The dates in September are Sept. 5, 12 and 26.

Student art, photography show

The Palmerton Area Library will host a student art and photography show from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday. Prizes will be given in three age groups.

Al-Anon groups

Al-Anon family groups meet at different locations in the Palmerton/Bowmanstown area.

Alateen Support Group for teens of family struggling with alcohol meets at Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Adult Al-Anon and AA meetings take place at the same time. Call 570-730-8601 for more information.

Courage to Change Al-Anon Family Group meets at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. For more information, call 570-861-4928.

Clothing collection

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., in Palmerton, continues collecting clothing items. There are three bright red recycling bins at the far end of the parking lot near the creek. Clothing, sheets, curtains, shoes, purses, etc. will be accepted. No household/leftover yard sale items, please.

Rummage/yard sale

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The kitchen will be open.

Food pantry

The food pantry for Palmerton-area families in need will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road on Friday. The CACPAC-sponsored pantry serves households in Palmerton, Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships, and the Palmerton Area School District, including Bowmanstown.

The Palmerton Food Bank is always in need of nonperishable food items, and canned goods. Paper items are also needed. If you can help, please bring items to any CACPAC member. Most are churches collect on a regular basis.
