Eldred Township to implement parking passes for Mock Park

Eldred Township voted to request residents parking at the Wes Flo Court parking site at Walter W. Mock Memorial Park to obtain parking passes during the supervisors meeting Wednesday night.

The new parking pass program is designed to alleviate Wes Flo Court residents’ concerns about illegal activity in the parking space at the end of their cul-de-sac.

“It’s called a placard and registration, but there’s no fees associated,” Vice Chairman Gary Hoffman said at the meeting. “It’s just to identify a parked vehicle there to prohibit someone going through an investigative process, calling the state police in. That’s all it is.”

The placard may have a reference number to identify a car left overnight, Hoffman said.

During the meeting, resident Robert Boileau voiced concerns about the new program.

“If I want to go in (to the park) and have a sandwich, and drive in, I have to have a placard?” Boileau asked.

But Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen assured residents that the township will not levy penalty fees.

“(In the) worst case scenario, someone will say to you, ‘please go get a placard before you come back,’ ” Clausen said at the meeting. “It’s not gonna be onerous.”

“It’s not something that there can be any enforcement on, so no, it’s not mandatory, it’s basically a courtesy to the local residents,” said secretary Ann Velopolcek.

Residents will be able to obtain a parking placard for free from the township and should display it in their windshield or back window, Velopolcek said.

The date for when this program will take effect has not been decided yet.

“It’s a pilot thing,” Velopolcek said. “We haven’t started it yet and we don’t know if it’ll be successful, but we’re just trying to make the (Wes Flow Court) residents feel comfortable with having an access right close to their homes.”
