Man injured in fire at garage in Franklin

A man suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out inside his garage in Franklin Township Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at 8:19 p.m. inside a detached garage at 825 Overlook Drive, according to township fire Chief Lynn Diehl.

“There was very little fire, just a small garbage can on fire in the garage,” Diehl said.

“The man said he was welding and something exploded.”

Diehl said the man did suffer moderate injuries, mostly bumps and scrapes, but refused transport to the hospital.

He said damage was moderate to the building, but that the fire did blow all the windows out and the garage door.

Diehl said the fire department was on scene for about 30 minutes.

“There was some type of explosion there,” he said. “It did create a rather large boom that was heard by a lot of people.”

Diehl said the Lehighton Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

“We really didn’t have to do a whole lot,” he said.
