Lehighton dance studio nominated for national contest

A Lehighton dance studio is being considered for a distinguished award and needs your help.

Dance with Kim School Of Performing Arts LLC recently had its Diamond Impact Dance Team nominated for a national contest for its dance “All That Jazz.”

A group of judges chose their favorite routines from all the competitions held around the country, which included the Diamond Impact Dance Team dancing a Bob Fosse style routine.

The routine is up for the Most Entertaining Routine, which would be a dream come true for Brittany Semmel, assistant artistic director, Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC.

Semmel said the team — consisting of a group of 17 girls who range in age from 12 to 18 — worked extremely hard on the dance routine.

“They were so excited,” Semmel said. “They’re so professional.”

Semmel said she’s extremely proud of how the team performed the Fosse style routine for which she choreographed.

“It was something I always wanted to do,” she said. “This was so special for me.”

Kim Semmel, owner/artistic director of Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC, said the girls “do really well for the short amount of time they are here.

“This is a very family-oriented group of kids,” Kim said. “They are really supportive of each other.”

She said it’s that type of atmosphere that leads to such prosperous results.

“They receive a lot of support from their peers and a lot of support from their family,” she said. “I think that’s what produces a successful team.”

Kim said she has 200 kids at her school, of which about 60 compete on a regular basis.

“We get them ready for the world,” she said.

As a result of their performance, the team is a part of the PAC ATTACK Challenge.

The winning routines have been posted online for voting. The video with the most likes by next season will win $500.

Kim said the voting can be done on Facebook, and there is one vote per user.

She encouraged voters to show their support for the team.

“Get our small little school on the map,” Kim said.
