July 31, 1956 — Larry Leitzel excels on the mound and at the plate to help Tamaqua post a 4-1 Tri-County League victory over Jim Thorpe. Leitzel tosses a three-hitter and loses his shutout big by giving up a run in the ninth. The winning hurler helps his own cause by delivering a two-run double in the sixth inning. Bob Lusky collects two hits, including an RBI double, while Bill Alonge also finishes with a pair of hits. Tamaqua, managed by Don Evans, receives an RBI single and run from Joe Thomas.
