St. John’s to hold annual clothing ministry

Volunteers from St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe have been preparing for months for the annual St. John’s Clothing Ministry.

A variety of items will be distributed to those who come to the event.

The distribution will take place during the first three weeks in August on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings starting this week.

The dates and times are as follows: opening day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 2, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3, and the following week, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 9, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10.

Everything is from donations from throughout the community, items such as clothing for all seasons for infants through adults in all sizes, shoes and footwear, bedding, household items and toys.

There are no income requirements and everyone is welcome.

All that they ask is that people sign in with their name and their town so that they can keep track of how many people come each year.

This outreach draws people from the local area and beyond. All are welcome to visit the church during the two weeks that the program is open.

This program would not be possible without the efforts of the clothing ministry team. The volunteers are Mary Strohl, Tom Strohl, Ann Louis Hayes, Leta Thompson, Paula Koons, Donna Gula, Shirley Stermer, Michelle Stermer, David Stermer, Trish Huber, Luther Snyder, Sally Bott, Lori Carnish, Peggy Confer, Irene Remmel and Bonnie Hoffman.
