Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met July 18 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 55 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “He’s Promised.”

A moment of silence was held in memory of Jane Tartar. A warm welcome was extended to guest Mary Becker, and new members Eleanor Schmerfeld, Carol Sedlak, Alice Tite. Doris Brobst was welcomed back.

The group is open to anyone 55 and older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. Pizza will be served at the next meeting on July 25.

Senior Fun Day

West Penn Township Senior Fun Day will be held on Aug. 3 at the West Penn Community Park, rain or shine. This event is free for West Penn Township residents 62 years of age and older. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m., with lunch served at noon.

Free activities and entertainment will be held throughout the afternoon with the event ending at 4:30 p.m., with an evening meal. This annual event is hosted by the West Penn Township Lions and Lioness Clubs. Come out for a day filled with fun, food and fellowship.

Please register by July 28 by calling Melissa at 570-818-7071 or Becky at 570-386-3045. An accurate head count is required for food preparation.

Summer concert

The next summer concert will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Tamaqua Train Station. Sterling Koch’s Freeway Jam, featuring their unique brand of blues based rock will be the evenings entertainment, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

The Summer Concert Series is a function of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Please do not contact the Train Station Restaurant or The Station Creamery.

Tamaqua Library

The Tamaqua Public Library is continuing with it’s ten center summer sale until Aug. 2.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service with Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call 570-952-5098.

A Bible study on the book of Revelation will be continuing from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 30 in the main Sunday school room.
