Man charged with hurting three in Monroe knife incident

A Monroe County man is charged with injuring three people with a knife earlier this week.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident was reported at 6:49 p.m. on Monday when officers were dispatched to a fight in Mount Pocono Plaza. While en route a second call was received stating that someone had been stabbed and that the suspect was still armed and swinging the knife around outside a store in the plaza.

Arriving on scene officers were directed to a man standing in front of the Dollar General Store holding a knife. He immediately dropped the knife when ordered by police. He was identified as Anthony Alves, 38, of Tobyhanna. Through the investigation police learned that Alves had assaulted his nephew. Two females were also involved in the assault. Police said a knife was allegedly displayed by the nephew after he had been assaulted by Alves and the females. During the course of the incident one of the females was stabbed and the second received facial injuries. The females, as well as the nephew, were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, East Stroudsburg campus, for treatment of injuries.

Alves has been charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. Police added that pending charges include aggravated and simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
