Local roundup: Results from July 15

Palmerton and Northern Valley were eliminated from the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack playoffs on Monday.

Franklin Township suffered a narrow setback in the Pennsylvania State Babe Ruth 13-year-old tournament Monday. But the team has secured a place in the final four, and will play Mifflin County today. With a win, Franklin will play for the state title and is guaranteed a spot in the Mid Atlantic Regional.

Elsewhere, Franklin Township posted a big win in the Panther Valley Little League Tournament.

NE Bethlehem-Palmerton

Northeast Bethlehem turned back Palmerton 8-7 in nine innings in a first round Lehigh Valley Connie Mack playoff contest.

David Espinal went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored for Northeast Bethlehem, which plated three runs in the top of the ninth to snap a 5-5 tie.

Jacob Sutton was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs for Palmerton, which rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Branden Kocher (triple, RBI, run scored), Justin Behler, Ethan Steinmetz and Lucas Heydt (double) had two hits apiece for Palmerton, while Shade Klotz knocked in two runs.

South Parkland-Northern Valley

South Parkland posted a 10-3 win over Northern Valley in the first round of the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack playoffs.

Kevin Santos was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for South Parkland.

Ryan Kensinger and Ryan Hammond (double) had two hits apiece for Northern Valley. Rhys George and Cole Hausman both added doubles.

PA BR State Tournament

Franklin Twp.-21st Ward

21st Ward edged Franklin Township 4-3 in the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth State Tournament. Ryan McManus had a hit and two RBIs for 21st Ward, which scored four times in the bottom of the third to take the lead.

Brady O’Donnell was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored as Franklin rallied for a run in the top of the seventh inning. Stephen Balak added a hit and an RBI. Ian Henkels also collected a hit.

PVLL 9-10 Tournament

Franklin Twp.-Towamensing

Franklin Township rolled to an 18-3 win over Towamensing in the Panther Valley 9-10-year-old Little League Tournament.

Franklin sent 22 hitters to the plate in a 16-run third inning. Cash White went 3-for-3 in the third with three singles, while Pierce Goida and Noah Wentz added two hits apiece. Lukas Croizier, Tegan Hettler, and Grant Birnbaum each added a hit.

Cody Snyder got the start for FT, giving up three runs while striking out eight. Wentz closed the game on and struck out three.

Franklin will face Tamaqua on Wednesday, while Towamensing will travel to Jim Throrpe.
