Pocono Garden Club will present “IMAGINE — A Trip Down Abbey Road” at Saturday’s Flower Show.

From Beatles-themed floral designs to “Creating an English Cottage Garden,” the club’s 31st annual Flower Show is taking on a British Invasion theme. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Northampton Community College, Route 715, Tannersville. The show is the club’s second at its new location, and includes an extensive plant sale.

“Last year’s Winged Creatures was our most successful show ever,” said Peg Zukawski, flower show chair. “Thanks to the generosity of our attendees, we were able to make increased donations to three local nonprofits: the Garden of Giving, and to Quiet Valley Living History Farm and the Monroe County Conservation District, where funding provides youth scholarship to camps.”

The show draws hundreds from the Poconos, Lehigh Valley and New Jersey, as well as area visitors from Philadelphia, New York, Florida, North Carolina and other areas.

“Our club is excited to welcome back our regular guests and all-new visitors to this year’s show,” Zukawski said.

Visitors will explore 10 favorite Beatles’ songs as interpreted through floral designs.

“Here Comes the Sun,” for instance, will feature monochromatic yellow flowers against a black niche.

A stretch design connecting two like containers, appropriately, will convey “Come Together.”

“Let It Be” will be a modern design represent yin/yang in two contrasting colors.

“Mother Nature’s Son” will feature planters of succulents that will be offered for sale at the show’s end.

Visitors can also view an abundance of award-winning locally grown plants. Horticultural specimens and houseplants will round out the exhibits.

Master Gardeners

Master Gardener Pamela Hubbard will also be there to speak on how to make a charming cottage garden in the English style.

She will describe the design elements and show how to reflect the flavor of an English garden using plants appropriate to the gardening conditions of the Poconos.

Master Gardener Sharon Carey, the club’s treasurer, will present an especially relevant program about “Gardening on a Warming Planet.”

Complementing that is a special offering in the plant sale of drought-tolerant, deer-resistant native plants that attract pollinators, such as hellebores, Caryopteris Grand Bleu, Shasta Daisy, Goldie’s Wood Fern, Foamflower and Cardinal flower.

Other attractions

The sale will also include perennials, annuals and houseplants grown by club members; as well as a marketplace of new and used garden-related items, a progressive auction, a tricky tray and baked goods.

The public is welcome to submit floral arrangements or horticultural specimens for exhibit and judging at the flower show in adherence with club guidelines, posted on the Pocono Garden Club’s Facebook page.

Proceeds raised from the event will support community service activities such as maintenance of the garden at the Hughes Library in Stroud Township, the Judy Holtz Memorial Butterfly Garden at the Monroe County Environmental Center in Bartonsville, and the Pocono Township Municipal Building Garden.
