Local Baseball Roundup: Results from July 3

Tamaqua dropped a Schuylkill-Berks Legion contest to Southern on Wednesday.

An early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Tamaqua Blue Sox fell 12-7 to the Southern A’s.

Kaleb Sophy had three hits, including a homer, and knocked in four runs for Southern, which bolted to a 9-0 lead.

Tamaqua’s Luke Van Buskirk finished 4-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. The Blue Sox, who rallied for seven runs over the final four frames, also received three hits and two runs from Michael Steigerwalt. Tate Ligenza added two hits and two RBIs, while Jimmy Akins blasted a home run.

LV LEGION

All-Star team announced

The Lehigh Valley Legion Baseball League recently announced its roster for its annual All-Star Game in Reading.

The contest, which pits the top players from the LVL against those from the Schuylkill-Berks League, will be played on Monday.

Four players from the Carbon Monarchs and four from the Northern Valley Chargers will be part of the LVL squad.

Monarchs making the team include outfielder Brad Buzzard, catcher Ian Hubbard, second baseman Zach Searfoss and pitcher Justin Marykwas. Northern Valley’s four some consists of shortstop Colten Hagadus, catcher Derek Holmes, third baseman Ryan King and pitcher Luke Eitner.
