Police report on DUI charges

State police reported the following incidents:

• A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence in Luzerne County.

State police said Alexis Maldonado, 22, of Tresckow, was stopped for a vehicle violation at 2:53 a.m. on June 8 along West Broad and South Church streets in Hazleton. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and taken into custody. He refused a chemical test. Stroudsburg troopers said charges are to be filed.

• A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident at 1:14 a.m. Monday.

State police at Stroudsburg stopped Jacob Leonawicz, 23, of Marshalls Creek in the 5100 block of Milford Road in Middle Smithfield Township, for a equipment violation. During the stop troopers detected criminal activity. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs. A search was conducted and found was drug paraphernalia. He was placed under arrest and taken for a blood test. He is facing charges of DUI and drug possession.

• Richard Arnold, 31, of Jim Thorpe, has a charge of driving under the influence pending against him. Lehighton troopers responded to a crash about 12:33 p.m. on June 15 along Drakes Creek Road at Cayuga Drive, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. On scene troopers spoke with Arnold. It was determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance, troopers said, and was taken for a blood draw at the Lehighton hospital. Charges are pending the blood test result.

On May 15 at 1:04 p.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Ford Focus at the intersection of Merwinsburg Road at Burger Hollow Road, in Chestnuthill Township, for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Matthew Frantz, 38, of Kunkletown. He was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was also in possession of methamphetamine and related drug paraphernalia. He was charged with drug counts.
