Local roundup: Results from June 27

Lansford won in dramatic fashion over Hegins in the opening game of the Schuylkill Teener League championship series on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Northern Valley topped the Carbon Monarchs in Lehigh Valley Legion action.

SCHUYLKILL TEENER LEAGUE

Hegins-Lansford

Lansford came from behind to score a 6-5 win over Hegins in Game 1 of the best-of-three Schuylkill Teener League Championship series.

Hayden Goida walked to put runners on first and second with one out when Mike Pascoe singled in Chase Weaver to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh. After another pop out, Cody Orsulak drove a 3-2 pitch to left driving in Goida from second to give Lansford the lead.

In the home half of the seventh, Kole Miller drew a leadoff walk for Hegins. Lansford then turned to Brad Hood to close it out. After hitting the first batter to put runners on first and second with no outs, Hood struck out the next two batters. The game ended when Pascoe gunned down Miller trying to steal third.

It took until the fifth inning for the Lansford bats to wake up. Brad Hood singled and scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 5-1. In the sixth, Lansford sent nine men to the plate, scoring three times, to make it a one run game.

Hegins scores four runs in the bottom of the first inning, with singles from Kam Wetzel, Miller, and Braxton Schwartz, with a walk and two errors mixed in. Lansford Stephen Hood settled in, allowing only a run in the fourth on a single by Lucas Schieb, who was driven in by Wetzel to give Hegins a 5-0 lead.

Game 2 is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Lansford. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Sunday.

Carbon-Northern Valley

Northern Valley posted a 3-1 win over the Carbon Monarchs in Lehigh Valley Legion play.

Eric Nothstein (2-for-2) singled to score Colten Hagadus to put Northern Valley up 1-0 in the third. Luke Eitner’s sacrifice fly plated Ryan King to push the advantage to 2-0. An Eitner sacrifice plated King in the bottom of the fifth to push the advantage to 3-0.

King finished 3-for-4 at the plated/ He shut the door in the seventh with two strikeouts. Eitner tossed six solid innings, striking out eight and surrendering just two hits.

Brad Buzzard’s sacrifice scored Jared Marykwas for the Monarchs in the top of the seventh. James Lordi had two hits for Carbon.
