A look back: June 28, 1954

His first solemn high Mass was offered by the Rev. John J. Quinn in St. Ann’s Church, Lansford, yesterday morning.

Joining the new priest at a reception that followed the Mass were the Rev. John O’Neill, pastor of St. Ann’s, the Rev. Neil Gargan, former president of Gonzaga College, Washington, who delivered the sermon, and the priest’s mother, Mrs. John Quinn.

The master of ceremonies was the Rev. Sydney Burgoyne, assistant pastor of St. Ann’s, while others who took part in the event were the Rev. William M.J. Driscoll, director of the Jesuit Seminary Guild, Baltimore, Maryland, and the Rev. Paul Gilvary, dean of discipline at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Philadelphia.
