Palmerton police report cars being entered

At least six cars were raided in Palmerton Wednesday evening in what police believe was a series of related entries.

Sgt. Christopher Ritter of the Palmerton Police Department said five of the entries were reported to the station. The sixth report came in Thursday afternoon, after a resident disclosed on the department’s Facebook post concerning the incidents that her vehicle had also been entered the night before.

Four of the entries occurred on the 600 block of Franklin Avenue; the other two took place on the 500 and 800 blocks of Lafayette Avenue. At least four of the vehicles were unlocked.

One car, Ritter said, was locked, but a purse was left sitting in plain view. A window on that vehicle was shattered. Out of the other five entries, one person reported missing some cash.

Palmerton Police believe the incidents took place after 10 p.m.

Following the entries, Ritter offered this advice to residents:

“Don’t leave anything valuable in your car,” he said. “If you have to, put it somewhere out of sight, like in the trunk, and lock your car.

“Always lock your car,” he reiterated.
