Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met June 20 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 51 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading “The Lifeline.”

Jane Tartar was added to the sick list, and a moment of silence was held in memory of Paul Rarick. John Fredericks and Mary Ann Laughlin were given a warm welcome back from the group.

April, May and June birthdays celebrated were: Penny Schlorf, Mary Bittle, Melody Weicker, Brenda Zellers, Margie Skymba, Carol Walburn, Gladys Arner and Diane Gould.

Annual summer picnic will be held Sept. 12 at West Penn Rod and Gun Club, Clamtown at noon.

Next meeting on June 27 will be a July Fourth celebration with a picnic lunch.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA, with a few exceptions for holidays.

Summer concert

The next summer concert will be held at the Tamaqua Train Station from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on June 27 with Magic Stew, a Carbon County based jam band, sponsored by Versum Materials as this week’s entertainment. There will not be a concert on July 4 due to the holiday.

The Summer Concert Series is a function of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Please do not contact the Train Station Restaurant or The Station Creamery.

Tamaqua Library

Tamaqua Public Library is continuing with the summer reading programs for all age groups.

Please call the library for more information or to register for any of the summer programs.

Music in the Park

The next Music in the Park sponsored by the Lansford Alive Committee will be held June 30 with Two Four One providing “old time rock ’n’ roll. Bring your own lawn chair to the gazebo in Kennedy Park, next to the Panther Valley Football stadium, 6 to 8 p.m.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Lutheran Church will observe their 300th Saturday service at 5:30 p.m. on June 29. The relaxed Saturday service is an alternative to the more traditional Sunday 9 a.m. service. Everyone is welcome. An old-fashioned covered dish picnic will follow the service to mark the anniversary and celebrate the Fourth of July.
