Driver in I-81 crash facing DUI

One of three drivers involved in a crash along Interstate 81 in Frailey Township, Schuylkill County, at 4:16 p.m. Friday is facing a charge of driving under the influence.

State police at Frackville said Sarah J. McGinley, 33, of Bloomsburg, was driving a 2007 Volkswagen northbound in the right lane behind a 2000 Freightliner tractor with trailer driven by Rodney G. Childs, 59, of Peru, New York.

McGinley attempted to change lanes into the left lane to pass Childs. However, Cassandra A. Mello, 36, of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, was in the left lane alongside her operating a 2018 BMW X5. McGinley’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Mello’s vehicle which caused McGinley to lose control. The Volkswagen then spun and went back into the right lane where it struck the trailer portion of Child’s rig. The Volkswagen’s driver side became lodged under the trailer. Child was able to pull onto the right shoulder.

No one was injured. Troopers said while interviewing McGinley they noticed signs of impairment. She was given field sobriety tests, which she failed, and was taken into custody. She later consented to a blood draw.
