State police at Fern Ridge report incidents

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following arrests made by troopers.

• Chantel Wright, 31, of Long Pond, was charged with scattering rubbish following an incident on May 28 at 4:45 p.m. at the Gulf service station located off Route 715 in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Wright pulled into the station and took a white trash bag from the trunk of her car and placed it next to the locked dumpster and fled.

• On May 27 about 4:27 p.m. troopers responded to the Turkey Hill store along Route 209 at Gilbert Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, for a report of three men causing a disturbance. Two of the three fled before the arrival of troopers. The one who stayed was identified as Andrew Bartnick, 33, of Saylorsburg. It was discovered that Bartnick had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody and transported to the county prison in Snydersville. At the prison it was discovered that Bartnick had a hypodermic needle filled with heroin. He was charged with drug possession.

• Peter Stefanide, 24, of Landenberg, Chester County, is facing charges following an incident at 3 a.m. June 8. Troopers responded to a residence along North Shore Drive in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, to a report of a domestic violence incident. Troopers learned that Stefanide had assaulted several members of the residence, broke a front windshield on a vehicle and fled. He was later located and resisted officers and kicked one of the troopers.

He was charged with assault and related counts and arraigned. Records indicate he is an inmate in the county prison in Nesquehoning.

• An Effort man is facing a retail theft charge. On June 10 troopers responded to a tobacco store located off Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township for a reported retail theft. Troopers said Joseph Tracy, 33, was observed on the store surveillance video stealing a bag of Good Stuff tobacco. Charges were filed.

Another retail theft incident was reported at 7:54 p.m. June 10 at the ShopRite in Chestnuthill Township. Video surveillance showed Heather Buckley, 42, of Effort, stealing groceries on three different dates. Charges were filed.

• On June 10 at 2:27 a.m. Markia Purnell, 24, of Plymouth, Luzerne County, was stopped for speeding along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, in a construction zone. Purnell was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Inside the vehicle were her two toddler children, troopers said. Purnell was taken into custody and transported to the county DUI center for a blood draw. The two children were turned over to their father. Charges of DUI and endangering the welfare of a child are pending blood test results.
