Carbon County court – ARD

Five first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Monday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete the program, or are revoked from it, they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.

Placed were:

Karen Catherine Chehovich

, 58, of Junedale, was place for a year on a charge of simple assault. She was arrested on Feb. 1 by state police at Hazleton for an incident involving her mother as the victim and occurring at a residence in Banks Township. The mother required medical attention, the police report indicates.

She was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Alexis Fuda

, 34, of Palmerton, was placed for 18 months on a charge of endangering the welfare of children. She was arrested on Nov. 22, 2018, by Palmerton police for an incident involving a 5-year-old female as the victim.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, attend and successfully complete both an anger management course and parenting classes and render 75 hours of community service.

Barbara Cristina Goncalves

, 43, of Easton, was placed for six months on a charge of false reports — reported offense that did not occur. She was arrested by Lansford police on April 30, 2018, along West Ridge Street.

She was assessed $650 and ordered to get a mental health evaluation and render 25 hours of community service.

Robin Moore Hoffman

, 55, of Weatherly, was placed for a year on a charge of endangering the welfare of children. She was arrested on Feb. 16, 2018, by state police at Hazleton for an incident involving two children, ages 8 and 14, at a residence along Buck Mountain Road in Lehigh Township. The incident was first reported by the office of children and youth.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to successfully complete a parenting class.

Sean Propson

, 20, of Lansford, was placed for six months on a charge of defiant trespass. He was arrested on April 13, 2018, by Lansford police for entering onto the property of Lehigh Anthracite Energy in the 600 block of East Ridge Street, without permission.

He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service and to stay off the property in question.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
