Fern Ridge state police report on crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 9:51 p.m. May 22 along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township. Alex M. Feldman, 23, of Armonk, New York, driving a 2017 Mazda CX5 eastbound when a black bear entered the road in front of him. The vehicle struck and killed the bear. Feldman was not injured.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 5:26 p.m. on June 2 along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Brandon Batista, 21, of Bronx, New York, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima westbound when another vehicle merged into the left lane. The driver then slowed down causing the Altima to strike the rear of the merging vehicle. The driver then fled the scene. Batista’s vehicle sustained minor damages.

• A crash occurred at 12:12 p.m. June 5 at the intersection of Silver Valley Road and Cottontail Lane, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Dominick L. Heller, 18, of Effort, was southbound on Silver Valley Road and attempted to negotiate a right hand curve and crossed into the left lane. At this point Tara L. Sigafoos, 44, of Saylorsburg, was eastbound on Cottontail Lane and came to a stop at the intersection.

Troopers said Sigafoos proceeded into the intersection where Heller’s 2002 Pontiac G6 struck Sigafoss’s 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 truck.

The Sierra spun counter-clockwise and came to rest in the intersection. After impact the Pontiac continued straight and struck a stop sign.

Heller and passenger Delia N. Knowles, 18, of Kunkletown, were not injured. Sigafoos was injured and taken for medical treatment. Damages were disabling to the Pontiac.

Troopers cited Heller for driving at a unsafe speed.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 6:23 p.m. June 9 along Route 715 in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Thomas E. Chestnut, 24, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2005 Mercury Sable westbound when he lost control while attempting to negotiate a right curve. The Sable rolled over and down an embankment. Chestnut was not injured. The Sable sustained disabling damages and was towed. Road conditions were wet due to rain, troopers noted.

Chestnut was cited for driving at a unsafe speed.
