June 14, 1975 — Six area players participate in the first-ever Schuylkill County Senior Charity Bowl, held at Pottsville’s Veterans Stadium. Tamaqua’s trio of Rick Fenstermacher, Jim Welsh and Andy Smarr team with Marian’s threesome of Jim Abromitis, Pat Brennan and Ed Curley to help form the North squad. The South, led by a touchdown pass and run by Schuylkill Haven’s Rick Becker, win the contest by a 17-15 score. Three other area athletes are named to the team but are unable to play due to injury. They include Tamaqua’s Paul James and Tom Koch, and Panther Valley’s Bob Faust.
