Two Monroe County men have been charged for delivering drugs that resulted in a drug overdose death of a man.

At 11:12 p.m. April 2, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department officers were dispatched by Monroe County Control Center to a reported overdose at an apartment in Mount Pocono.

Officers responded and upon arrival, attempted CPR and continued rendering aid until EMS arrived.

Evidence on scene indicated that Jai Dee Ortiz died of a probable heroin/fentanyl overdose.

Police identified a probable drug dealer, Ronald Ahrens, 47, Blakeslee, who delivered heroin to Ortiz earlier in the day.

Ahrens was arrested on April 3 for drug dealing and related offenses and his suspected source, Jonathan Nesbit, 27, Pocono Summit, was later arrested that same day for drug dealing and related offenses.

At the time of their arrest they possessed substances identified as fentanyl.

Police investigation determined the substance to be the same fentanyl that killed Ortiz.

All of the evidence collected is consistent with ongoing and different levels of drug distribution, whereas Nesbit possessed and delivered a quantity of fentanyl to Ahrens, who in turn, delivered a portion of that fentanyl to Ortiz, which Oritz consumed, overdosed from, and died.

Warrants were completed charging Ahrens and Nesbit with drug delivery resulting in death and related offenses.

The warrants were approved by the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and field with Magisterial District Judge Phillip Riley.

Both Nesbit and Ahrens are currently housed at the Monroe County Correction Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail, and will be arraigned on their new charges.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 11 before Riley.
