Lackawanna man gets state term for drug dealing

A Lackawanna County man, scheduled to go on trial last week in Carbon County court on drug charges, changed his mind and entered guilty pleas to two drug counts and was sentenced to a state prison term.

Breeze Jirell Johnson, 29, of Dunmore, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

He was arrested following a traffic stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge on June 13, 2016. During the stop a quantity of drugs were found. He was originally charged with 12 criminals counts. In the plea bargain all the counts but the two he pleaded to were dropped, including three felonies.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas.

On the possession of controlled substance charge Matika imposed a state prison term of six to 12 months, and on the paraphernalia charge four to 12 months with the terms running consecutive to each other. He must also pay court costs of about $1,000.

Johnson, who has been an inmate in the county prison on the charges since his arrest, was given credit for 351 days already served.
