Tamaqua news for June 5, 2019

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met May 28 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 45 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert opened the meeting with the invocation “Keep Our Nation in Thy Care.”

Nancy Nunemacher was added to the sick list and Nancy Messerschmidt was welcomed back.

A moment of silence was held for all veterans who sacrificed their lives that we have our freedom. Current veteran members honored were: Neal Flexer, Robert Neifert, Pat Fredericks and Fred Herb.

A reminder that food vouchers will be given out at the Salvation Army, Tamaqua, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 10. Proxy vouchers may be picked up at Jerry Knowles’ office.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older. The next meeting will be held June 11.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met May 30 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 42 members present. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the invocation “A Prayer For Peace.”

Paul Rarick and Nancy Nunemacher were added to the sick list. Doris Yeager was give a warm welcome back, along with guest Carol Walburn.

Birthdays for April, May and June will be celebrated in the middle of June.

There is a trip to Schuylkill County Fair scheduled for Aug. 1. The STS bus is scheduled to leave at 10 a.m.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting will be June 6.

Summer concert

The next summer concert will be held at the Tamaqua Train Station from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on June 6. Heisler’s Dairy Bar is sponsoring the Sound Birds. They feature a mix of classic rock and folk music.

The Summer Concert Series is a function of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Please do not contact the Train Station Restaurant or The Station Creamery.

YMCA summer dance program

The Tamaqua YMCA will be hosting summer dance classes for 8 weeks from July 8 to Aug. 28. There are four unique options for varying age groups. Register your child by completing a registration form at the Tamaqua YMCA front desk. For information, contact Zach at zrubin@ymca-berkscounty.org or call 570-668-2903.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery at 6:30 p.m.; June 12, TYM Remix at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare at 7 p.m., Worship practice at 8 p.m.; June 13, Coffee and Conversation at 7 p.m. at Hope & Coffee, 137 Pine St.
