Local Roundup: Results from May-31-June 2

Key contributions from several Northwestern soccer players helped the Colonial League sweep the East Penn Conference in Sunday’s All-Star games.

SOCCER

LVSSAF All-Star Classic

Northwestern’s Sara Hathaway and Maggie Motolese both scored goals to help the Colonial League girls gain a 3-2 victory over the East Penn Conference Sunday in the first LVSSAF All-Star Classic at Salisbury.

In the boys contest, the Tigers’ Sam Seyfried tallied to help the Colonial League earn a 2-1 win.

In the girls contest, Southern Lehigh’s Kristen Cocozza also scored for the winners, while Spartan goalie Ellie Cassel made six saves.

The CL boys also received a pair of assists from Northwestern’s Caleb Danner in their victory. Also scoring for the Colonial League squad was Carson Danaher from Moravian Academy.

Jim Thorpe-Hellertown

Garret Lienhard had four hits, and Brandon Fasolino drove in four runs, to lead Jim Thorpe to a 13-4 victory over Hellertown on Sunday.

Lienhard added two runs and three RBIs, while Fasolino finished with a pair of hits and two runs.

The winners, who broke the game open with an eight-run second inning, also received two hits and an RBI from Noah Rosahac.

Jared Marykwas, who knocked in two runs, struck out seven and earned the win.

Jim Thorpe-Stroudsburg

A big second inning propelled Stroudsburg to a 13-4 victory over Jim Thorpe on Friday.

The winners plated six runs in the home second and tacked on four more in the fourth.

For Thorpe, Blaine Dart had two hits and scored a run. DJ Richebacher added a hit, a run and two RBIs.

Northern Valley-S. Parkland

Northern Valley jumped out to an early lead, but South Parkland scored 12 unanswered runs to pull away for a 13-6 victory on Saturday.

Chase Misera had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Chargers, who took a 3-0 advantage in the first inning.

Rhys George and Randy Bongiorno both had two hits and two runs for Northern Valley, while Ryan Kensinger added two hits, a run and an RBI. Cole Hausman also knocked in a pair of runs.

Lansford-Girardville

Lansford exploded for seven runs in the first inning Saturday and held on for an 8-5 victory over Girardville.

Hayden Goida and Stephen Hood both had two hits for the winners, while Trey McAndrew singled and drove in two runs.

Brad Hood pitched four innings to earn the win.

Lansford-Pine Grove Gray

A balanced attack helped Lansford post a 10-5 victory over Pine Grove Gray.

Drew Kokinda singled and drove in a run for the winners, while Alex Woodward, Cody Orsulak, and Michael Pascoe all collected hits in the Lansford attack.

Aiden Rohrbach tossed three innings to gain the pitching win.

Birches-Nazareth

Nazareth’s Ryan Pitts pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Nazareth to a 4-1 victory over the Birches.

Nick Ciszak had two hits, one a double, and a run for the Birches, while Jake Gethan added a double and an RBI.

BLUE MOUNTAIN LEAGUE

Berlinsville-Hellertown

Tyler Svetik and Jake Augustus helped the Berlinsville Braves cruise to an 11-3 victory over the Hellertown Royals on Friday.

A Palmerton graduate, Svetik pitched six innings and allowed five hits and three runs. Svetik, who had a no-hitter with two outs in the fourth inning, walked one and struck out four.

Augustus, who graduated from Northwestern, had three hits, including a solo homer and a double. He also stole two bases and scored three runs.

The Braves (3-3) also received three hits, two RBIs and three runs from Bruce Breithaupt. Northern Lehigh grad Cody Hallman added a hit and knocked in a run.

For the Royals, Pleasant Valley grad Kenny Serfass had a hit and an RBI.
