Kunkletown man dies in Eldred motorcycle crash

A 24-year-old Kunkletown man died in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle at 7:07 p.m. Friday on Silver Springs Boulevard in Eldred Township, according to state police at Lehighton.

Police did not release the name of the victim who was driving the 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650, but said he was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.

Police said the crash happened when a 1998 Infiniti QX4 driven by Richard D. Abbazio, 34, of Palmerton, which was traveling south on the highway, attempted to turn left onto Borger Road, and entered the path of the motorcycle, causing the collision. Police said the driver was thrown from the motorcycle, which came to rest about 40 yards after the initial impact.

Police were also assisted at the scene by the Polk Township and Kunkletown fire departments, the Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder company and the Palmerton and West End ambulance corps.
